BEATON, Cecil. Far East
BEATON, Cecil. Far East. London: Batsford. 1945. 8vo. First edition. Publisher’s red cloth lettered in vibrant yellow to spine and front board, in the beautifully patterned dust jacket. Colour frontispiece, 32 black and white photographic plates and 15 in-text line drawings by Beaton. The cloth just a trifle bumped to corners and spine tips, the binding tight and square. A few spots to the textblock edges, but the contents generally fine barring a few minor marks. The dust jacket unclipped (15s net) with some tiny chips to the corners and spine tips. Light marks to the flaps, but a handsome copy and unusually so.
A sequel of sorts to Beaton’s Near East published two years prior, covering vaster and more remote areas of India, China, and Burma during his time as a leading war photographer under the Ministry of Information. A charming volume.
