GASS, William H. In the Heart of the Heart of the Country (uncorrected proof)
GASS, William H. In the Heart of the Heart of the Country. London: Jonathan Cape. 1969. 8vo. Publisher’s softcover wraps. An uncorrected proof copy of the British edition of Gass’s second published work, a collection of five well-received short stories set in the Midwest. Nicholas Lezard writing in The Guardian called the volume “suggests the milieux of Edward Hopper paintings, ones in which the paint itself writhes under your gaze”. A very good copy, the corners, spine tips and joints gently rubbed and bumped, with a couple of light marks to the paper label. The spine a touch wrinkled, else clean. Uncommon.
