LEAVIS, F. R., D. H. Lawrence

£25.00

LEAVIS, Frank Raymond, D. H. Lawrence. Cambridge: The Minority Press. 1930. 8vo. Printed wraps with central motif of a bean sprout growing out of the letter 'M'. A very good copy, the wraps a little toned to extremities, the corners and spine nicked and creased. Contents fine.

An interesting piece of literary criticism. Leavis was an influential figure, known among scholars, colleagues and his many students for his grave seriousness in literary review. His criticism of what he termed the dilettante elitism of the Bloomsbury Group divided many of his students. One such student, a proponent, was Gordon Fraser who set up The Minority Press to publish such criticism, short-lived as it was. Lawrence too, of course, was somewhat critical of the Bloomsbury Group. Leavis wrote further criticism of Lawrence almost three decades later, titled dictatorially 'D. H. Lawrence: Novelist'.
