MASTIN, John. The Immortal Light
MASTIN, John. The Immortal Light. London: Cassell. 1907. 8vo. First edition (there was a 1909 reprint by Charles Griffin; this is the true first). Publisher’s green cloth lettered in gilt to the spine and upper board. A scarce lost world science fiction novel about the discovery of an advanced Latin-speaking civilisation live underground, a utopian society. With interesting provenance, the ex libris bookplate of Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia, composed of Master Masons of England, the oldest and most distinguished of its kind “rooted in esoteric wisdom”. A very well-preserved copy, externally clean and bright, gently bumped at corners and spine tips, reference ‘378’ to lower spine. Binding tight and gently rolled. Internally clean, some light scattered foxing to prelims and occasionally elsewhere, also to the textblock edges. But an altogether excellent example. Scarce.
