O'NEILL, Eugene. The Great God Brown
O’NEILL, Eugene. The Great God Brown including The Fountain, The Dreamy Kid and Before Breakfast. London: Jonathan Cape. 1926. 8vo. First British edition thus. Publisher’s blue cloth with paper label to the spine, in the uncommon dust jacket. A very good copy overall, the cloth clean, the binding tight and square. The textblock edges a little darkened, but the contents mostly fine, light offsetting to endpapers. The dust jacket unclipped (7s 6d net), with closed tear from the top corner front panel into the titles, some smaller nicks and closed tears to other areas of the jacket including spine foot, the spine darkened. Still, a bright copy.
The first appearance in Britain of this play centred on masks, which was first produced on Broadway in the same year as publication here. Also included are two one-act plays and The Fountain, a longer work about Ponce de Leon's search for the fountain of youth.
