SEGHERS, Anna. The Revolt of the Fishermen. Trans. from the German by Margaret Goldsmith. London: Elkin Mathews. 1929. 8vo. First English language edition. Publisher's black cloth lettered in yellow to the spine, in the excellent dust jacket, uncredited. A very good copy, the titles to spine a little rubbed, the binding tight and square, the contents mostly fine, offsetting to endpapers and some light occasional spots. The dust jacket complete, darkened, rubbed at joints and corners, a few tiny chips and nicks, but a nice copy overall.

The author's first novel, attributed to the New Objectivity movement in Germany. The novel follows a strike from the Saint Barbara fishermen. Seghers--a pseudonym for Anna Reiling--later objected to Nazi rule and gained a visa to leave Germany for Mexico where she lived for several years. Her later novels are classified as German social realist.
