SIBSON, Francis. Unthinkable
SIBSON, Francis. Unthinkable: A Novel of Mystery & Adventure in Southern Oceans. New York: Harrison Smith and Robert Haas. 1933. 8vo. First edition. Publisher’s blue cloth lettered in black to the spine and upper board, in the marvellous dust jacket designed by Arthur Hawkins Jr. A very good copy, the cloth a little discoloured towards the edges, else clean, the binding tight and square, the dark topstain unfaded. The contents fine. The dust jacket neatly cut at all four corners, with price of $2.00 retained. The spine a little faded with a few abrasions here and to central panel, lightly rubbed at most edges, but still a most handsome copy.
One of only a small handful of novels by British-born Sibson, most of which featured elements of science fiction and/or mystery. This one follows the crew of a disastrous Antarctic expedition board a stranded steamer, fix it up, and on their return to South Africa, discover civilisation ended by a devastating war involving poison gas.
