WARRICK, Milligan. The Yawning Lion
WARRICK, Milligan. The Yawning Lion: A Tale of the Scottish Border. Edinburgh: Grant and Murray. 1932. 8vo. First edition. Publisher’s green cloth lettered in black to the spine and upper board, in two jackets, both the first issue yellow jacket with red lettering, priced at 7/6 net to spine with the misspelled ‘Warwick’, and a pictorial design priced at 3/6 net to spine, corrected to ‘Warrick’. The latter jacket with the tagline, ‘a mystery tale of the Solway’. A very good copy, the cloth with a circular stain to front board (also affecting the second jacket). Corners and tips gently bumped, the binding tight and slightly rolled. Small amount of spots to textblock edges, very occasional spots within. The second dust jacket with several small nicks, front flap clipped, tape repairs to verso with some ghosting to corners. The first jacket darkened at spine, a little marked and bumped to extremities but very good.
The author’s debut novel. He wrote at least three mysteries, each set in the Scottish Borders. Little other biographical information exists about the author. Scarce.
